- dirty clothes from the wash
- smelly washing machine
- grimy residue on washing
Dirty Washing Machine? You wouldn't think your washing machine could get dirty. With all the hot soapy water running through it, you'd expect it to be nice and clean on the inside. Well you'd be wrong. Despite your washing machine being used to clean your clothes and linen, over time, with all the dirty water running through it, dirt and residue do get left behind, coating the insides with a smelly, gunky slime. |
Modern low temperature detergents don't help. Cooler washing, although good for your electricity bills and the environment, can encourage the residue build up quicker.
If you've had your washing machine a while then sooner or later you may be faced with foul smells from the machine and a grimy residue on your clean laundry.
If you've ever asked 'How to clean a smelly washing machine' then read on...

How to Clean your Soap Drawer
The soap drawer hold your washing machine powder or liquid and also any pre-wash and fabric conditioners you use.
Old soap powder and fabric conditioner quickly dry and attract dirt and your soap drawer starts looks grimy and mouldy.
Dirty soap drawers can become home to bacteria and fungal spores so it's a good idea to clean them regularly and thoroughly with an appropriate cleaner.
Remove the drawer from your washing machine and soak it in some hot soapy water to loosed the congealed powders and detergents.
If the drawer is blackened in places and has scum marks then you can add a little bleach to the water it's soaking in. A bleach mixture will also kill any bacteria and mould too.
Removing the dirt from inside the machine where the soap drawer slides into is a bit trickier, some hot soapy water and an old toothbrush is the best solution for this, again for some extra cleaning power you can use a mild bleach mixture.
